Young voters who either lived through or grew up in the wake of 9/11, and the perpetual anxiety stemming from unwarranted and never ending invasions of sovereign nations, the erosion of privacy and civil liberties in exchange for a false sense of security, the financial crash of the 2000’s, subsequent corporate bailouts, and non-stop economic uncertainty (among other consequences of bipartisan supported measures) are not uninformed or apathetic – they are disillusioned. Young voters have been deprived of transparency among other incentives for believing in government, public institutions, or democracy as it is currently constructed – in fact, quite the opposite.
