Stone Temple Pilots “Sour Girl”
(VH1 Storytellers, 2000)
This is the Scott Weiland I choose to remember. This aired just prior to the release of Four, when Scott had really gotten his life back together and it really comes through hear. The last two records don’t get their proper due, but all six STP albums with Weiland have their moments. What’s amazing is how different they all sound from one another – they really had a wide range of styles. And while Four was largely driven by a heavier sound, “Sour Girl ”, “I Got You”, and “Atlanta” are in the same vein as “And So I Know” from Tiny Music. Theres are some of the best examples of STP’s willingness to expand the territory of what they were known and loved for.
